The Nigerian Navy College of Health Sciences (NNCHS) Offa was established in 1984 as NN Medical Staff Training School (MSTS) situated in NNS QUORRA. The idea to establish the College was conceived in 1982 to train middle level manpower to support the health professionals in the actualization of the primary objectives of the NN Medical Services. This step to localize professional courses in the NN was necessary due to the economic downturn of the nation as the medical ratings were trained abroad at huge expense to the nation in the past. This initiative has yielded the desired result as the College has since trained over 1000 middle level medical staff to support the NN and the nation at large.
Efforts to relocate MSTS to Offa commenced in 2004 during the tenure of V Adm SO Afolayan as the Chief of the Naval Staff. This was to give the College a more befitting site which would give room for expansion and also give the NN a wider geographical spread as part of the development strategy of the NN. The relocation was approved by the Navy Board in November 2005 and the College was re-designated as Nigerian Navy School of Health Sciences (NNSHS) Offa.Thereafter, the School was commissioned on 26 May 2007 by Chief Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi, the then Honourable Minister of Defence. Then in 2021, NHQ granted approval for change of nomenclature of the School from NNSHS to Nigerian Navy College of Health Sciences (NNCHS) Offa. This new name is befitting of the College's current status where all the courses are fully accredited by their respective professional boards and the diploma programmes by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). It also reflects the role it has come to play in the provision of medical services in the NN and the nation as well as its future aspirations and potential. Additionally, the College provides security to Offa and its environs through its involvement in Internal Security Operations code-named Operation HARMONY, established by the Kwara State Government. Furthermore, the College provides quality healthcare to the people of Offa and its environs through the NNCHS Sickbay as part of its social-corporate responsibilities.
